The two ladies visited the exhibition rooms and learned about documents and artifacts on display which honored the beauty of Vietnamese women and reflected on the development and changes in the role, status and life of women in society over time at the Vietnamese Women's Museum.

They later engaged in a talk with role models in education and young girls.

Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan, who is also World Health Organization’s Goodwill Ambassador for Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS and UNESCO Special Envoy for the Advancement of Girls' and Women's Education, expressed her admiration to the examples of Vietnamese women and spoke highly of the role of education in changing the fate of many disadvantaged women and girls.

China and Viet Nam share similar cultures and enjoy a close people-to-people bond, Peng said, adding that she hopes the two countries can deepen people-to-people exchanges and write more chapters of China-Viet Nam friendship.

The two ladies also enjoyed tea, a show of traditional Vietnamese long dresses and performances of Vietnamese musical instruments.

Established in 1987, the Vietnamese Women’s Museum on Ha Noi’s Ly Thuong Kiet Street contains approximately 40,000 materials and artifacts illustrating the lives of Vietnamese women throughout history.

There are three permanent exhibitions at the museum: Women in Families, Women in History, and Women’s Fashion. These exhibitions reveal the many facets of Vietnamese women’s culture through rituals, marriage and birth giving traditions, and traditional costumes. Stories about women in the wartime and contemporary society are also presented to the public here.

Peng and China’s Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping started their two-day State visit to Viet Nam on December 12.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held a same-day reception ceremony for Xi with a 21-gun salute.

This is the third visit of the Chinese Party General Secretary and President to Viet Nam. The previous two visits were in 2015 and 2017./.
