Five outlying districts tasked to sketch out plans to become urban districts
VGP - The Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee has recently authorized the five outlying districts of Dong Anh, Gia Lam, Thanh Tri, Hoai Duc, and Dan Phuong to sketch out plans to become urban districts.

The deadline for the plans is December 31, 2025.
Under a program issued earlier by the Ha Noi Party Committee, five rural districts, namely Hoai Duc, Gia Lam, Dong Anh, Thanh Tri, and Dan Phuong, were set to be upgraded to urban districts in the period of 2021-2025, and three others, namely Thanh Oai, Thuong Tin and Me Linh, in the period of 2026-2030.
Of the five outlying districts, Dong Anh has the largest land area of over 180 km2, a population of about 380,000 residing in 23 communes and one town.
Gia Lam has a total land area of 115 km2, a population 280,000people, 20 communes and two towns.
So far, Ha Noi is home to 12 urban districts including four core districts (Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Dong Da, and Hai Ba Trung) and eight others (Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem, Cau Giay, Ha Dong, Hoang Mai, Long Bien, Tay Ho and Thanh Xuan). /.
