As scheduled, students have to take only three tests in mathematics, literature and foreign language in their high-school entrance examinations. They don't take the fourth test in other subject as they did previously because it was abolished by the municipal education department due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Nearly 89,000 students are competing for 64,110 seats at public schools in the 2020-2021 academic year.
Maths and literature tests will be taken in written form over a duration of 120 minutes while the foreign language test will combine both multiple choice and writing across 60 minutes.
The students who do not pass the exam chose to enroll in centers for continuing education, vocational training schools, or private high schools.
Ha Noi set up 172 places for the exam with over 3,700 rooms. The city also mobilized 12,000 teachers and staff to monitor the exams.
Ha Noi has more than 107,000 students in the ninth grade in the 2019-2020 academic year and an estimated 62% will be admitted to government-run schools in the next school year.
Students applying for specialized high schools for gifted students, including Hanoi-Amsterdam, Nguyen Hue, Chu Van An and Son Tay, will have to take another test in a subject of their choice./.
