VGP – Hundreds of extra buses and trains will be used to meet increasing travel demand during the upcoming three-day holiday for National Day (September 2).

The Ha Noi Bus Station Company will add 300 more coaches to meet commuters’ demand.
As the National Day this year falls on a Sunday, the public will have an extra day off the following Monday and the number of passengers travelling out of Ha Noi are expected to surge on the afternoon of August 31 and the morning of September 1.

According to Nguyen Anh Toan, director of the Ha Noi Bus Station Company, the company plans to add 115 journeys from Giap Bat Station, 45 from Gia Lam Station and 140 from My Dinh Station.

The additional services will focus on the routes of less than 300 kilometres such as those from Ha Noi to Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Phu Tho, Lai Chau and Quang Ninh provinces.

In order to ease the pressure on Ha Noi’s bus stations before and after the holiday, the company has asked inter-provincial bus operators to sell their tickets in advance and make the contingency plans.

The bus station authorities will also take measures to prevent the operation of unqualified and overloaded buses, as well as those whose drivers drink or use other stimulants to ensure the safety of passengers and their properties.

Company director Nguyen Anh Toan cited the Ha Noi Transport Corporation as saying the number of passengers is expected to rise sharply on September 1 and September 2.

The corporation has asked transport companies to avoid increasing ticket prices, not carry passengers beyond the permitted number, and forbid drivers from drinking while on duty to avoid accidents.

Additionally, there will be round-the-clock security presence at bus stations to maintain law and order, the company said.
