Capital city to hold fireworks display at Thong Nhat Park on Lunar New Year’s Eve

VGP – The Ha Noi authorities will organize a firework show on the New Year’s Eve at a single avenue without spectators at the Coconut Island, Thong Nhat Park, Hai Ba Trung District for fears of COVID-19 transmission.

The show will take place at 0:00 on February 1, 2022 (on the New Year’s Eve of the Tiger). The 15-minute fireworks display will be broadcast live on television.

This is the second consecutive year the Capital only holds a firework displays show without crowds due to pandemic fears. The city used to organize the firework displays to welcome Lunar New Years at all 30 districts and towns.

Earlier, the local authorities also suspended countdown events, fireworks for New Year's Eve in the city, limiting unnecessary events and taking precautionary measures to prevent the Covid-19 outbreak.

On December 31, Chairman of the Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh signed Public Telegram 27/CD-UBND on enhancement of preventive measures against COVID-19 during New Year Festival and at the beginning of 2022.

On December 27, 2021, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung signed and issued a plan on responding to the new variant of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron in the city.

Since the fourth wave of COVID-19 resurgence (from April 29, 2021), Ha Noi confirmed 54,831 infections including 17,944 community cases and 36,887 others in quarantine camps or lockdown areas./.
