HN to conduct various activities on 20th anniversary of City for Peace

Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Bui Thi Thu Hien reported that Ha Noi, the only city in the Asian Pacific Region was awarded the title City for Peace” by the UNESCO on July 16, 1999. The recognition praised the historical and cultural values, renovation achievements, and aspiration for peace of Hanoians. Over the past 20 years, Ha Noi has spared no effort to transform itself into a dynamic city but build an environment of peace, openness, development, and contribute to a world of peace for the future. 

The Ha Noi People’s Committee on June 21 issued a plan on the celebration of the event scheduled on July 16, 2019.

Accordingly, a ceremony will be held on July 13 at the Ly Thai To Flower Park besides Hoan Kiem lake in the heart of Ha Noi to mark the 20th anniversary. 

About 10,000 people will walk for peace.

Notably, a peace-honouring festival featuring two performances, themed ‘I love Hanoi’ and ‘Lighting peace’, is expected to delight audiences on July 13-14.

International organizations and embassies will introduce their cultural identities and tourism products at an event entitled ‘Friendship Village’ in Le Thach street.

Photo exhibitions honoring “civilized and elegant Hanoians” as well as the capital city’s efforts towards peace will open in July and September, respectively. Meanwhile a peaceful and friendship melody festival, themed ‘Echoes of the peaceful city’ will be held in October.

Visitors to the capital will also be introduced to Viet Nam’s UNESCO recognized intangible cultural heritages.

Workshops, communications activities and book festivals on Ha Noi and its integration and development, as well as socio-economic achievements will be held on the occasion. 

The anniversary activities will be held in a grave, practical, saving manner. 

These activities also aim to ignite the pride of local residents on the city for peace and build the city towards innovation, smart, green, clean, and beauty./.
