HN to build nearly 5 million sq. meters of social housing house by 2015

VGP – Hanoi sets the goal to build at least 940,000 sq. meters of social housing annually between 2011-2015.

By 2015, the total area of social housing will reach 4.7 million sq. meters, meeting 50% of the city demand.

The capital expects to provide accommodation for 100,000 students and 230,000 workers; build 15,500 apartments for low-income groups and other 20,000 ones for resettlement.

These goals were released at the signing ceremony of an action plan for the realization of the National Housing Development Strategy through 2020, with vision to 2030 between the Ministry of Construction and Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee on July 24.

Under the action plan, the Ministry of Construction and the Municipal People’s Committee will set up a joint working group to direct and organize the implementation of the Strategy in the city.

Minister of Construction Trinh Dinh Dung stressed that the key mission is to do research, establish mechanism and policies on housing management and development.

The State will adopt mechanisms to support businesses to park investments in developing social housing. Besides, it will also launch social housing projects funded the State budget, he added. 

Demand for social houses in Hanoi from now to 2015:

-          For students: 1.6 million sq. meters for 250,000 students

-          For low-income group: 4.1 million sq. meters for 82,000 households

-          For workers: 3.7 sq. meters for 320,000 people

-          For resettlement: 2 million sq. meters for 26,000 households
