VGP - All people who arrived from the northern provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, the country’s COVID-19 hotspots, would be tested for the novel coronavirus, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung said.

The move came as the pandemic situation in Bac Giang, 50 kilometers from Ha Noi, got worse. Health experts have said that the province’s outbreak is unpredictable and could last longer than expected.

Statistics showed that 6,300 people from Ha Noi are working in the two provinces (especially 151 people working in industrial parks in Bac Giang province). The Health Department requested these people keep a close watch on their health, avoid contacts, only go out if really necessary, and seriously comply with disease prevention measures.

Since April 29, Ha Noi has recorded 82 Covid-19 patients at 17 districts and towns.

Meanwhile, the pandemic situation in neighboring provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh is increasingly serious (336 cases confirmed in Bac Giang and 252 others in Bac Ninh). A number of industrial zones in the two provinces have recorded new Covid-19 patients.

“The biggest risk for the city now is the influx of people from Bac Giang and Bac Ninh since a large number of workers from the provinces live in Ha Noi, posing a high risk for Ha Noi," Mr. Dung stressed.

So far, 38 areas in Ha Noi have been locked down across the city with over 23,600 residents in a bid to curb disease transmission.

Earlier, the Department of Health took swabs for 10,190 returnees from Da Nang during the National Holidays (April 30 and May 1)./.
