HN imposes lockdown over COVID-19 variants

VGP – Ten areas in Ha Noi have been placed on lockdown following the latest Covid-19 outbreak featuring a rapidly transmitting U.K.-originated variants.

 

The ten areas with restricted access include a primary school and an apartment building in Nam Tu Liem District, the FPT University in Thach That District and a military-managed factory in Dong Anh District. Other  areas are in Cau GiayHai Ba Trung, Me Linh, and Hoai Duc districts.

Earlier, all bars, karaoke parlors, and discotheques in Ha Noiwere closed since February 1 as measures to contain the spreading novel coronavirus. All internet and online game stores were shut down since 0:00 AM of February 2. 

Over 2 million students from kindergartens to high schools started their Lunar New Year holiday from February 1, a week earlier than scheduled for fears of COVID-19 spike.

Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said at a meeting with city authorities on Monday that Ha Noi should consider applying social distancing on a wider scale as the pandemic situation in the capital has turned complicated and could last longer than expected.

So far, the capital has reported 21 infections linked to Hai Duong and Quang Ninh outbreaks including Cau Giay district (3), Nam Tu Liem district (10), Hai Ba Trung district (2), Me Linh outlying district (3), and Dong Anh outlying district (3)./.
