Ha Noi uncovers 53 sites with prostitution activities in first half of 2019

VGP – The capital city of Ha Noi’s police force detected 53 sites with prostitution activities and arrested 240 people involved in the first half of 2019.

The city realized criminal treatment on 49 cases and 52 subjects, administrative sanctions for four cases and 188 subjects. As many as 102 sex workers were given administrative sanctions. The people’s courts at all levels put on trial 58 cases and 66 accused for prostitution harboring and brokering. 

Ha Noi authorities reported 5,783 businesses offering so-called "sensitive" services, according to the city’s department of labor, invalids and social affairs. 

Over the first six months of 2019, the city’s functional agencies launched period checks on the observance of regulations on prostitution prevention and control at 19 businesses offering so-called “sensitive” services. 

According to the International Labor Organization, as many as 100,000 sex workers have been recorded in Viet Nam, including 75,000 females. 

The Ministry of Health estimated that there were around 87,000 prostitutes while the United Nations announced the figure is approximately 300,000.

From 2011-2016, the inter-provincial investigation groups handled 5,791 prostitution cases and arresting 23,231 violators, including 9,643 sex workers and 8,206 customers./.
