Ha Noi rolls out key tasks on EVFTA implementation

VGP – Ha Noi has set out five groups of key tasks to implement the European Union-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) in the time ahead.

Specifically, the city will accelerate the dissemination of information about the pact, while providing training for public employees and businesses on the EVFTA’s regulations and commitments to ensure they clear understand the deal as well as market characteristics of member countries. 

In addition to seriously, fully and effectively fulfilling Viet Nam’s commitments and obligations under the EVFTA, Ha Noi will continue to review existing legal normative documents to proactively recommend competent agencies amend, supplement, abolish or issue new legal documents to ensure compliance with the agreement. 

At the same time, the city will focus on improving competitiveness, developing human resources, enhancing the application of science and technology to improve labor productivity in enterprises and industries, restructuring the industrial sector to create a foundation for industrialization and modernization, and accelerating the restructuring of agriculture and the rural economy with the application of advanced production models as well as safe and environmentally friendly technologies.

Ha Noi will also strengthen measures and mechanisms to encourage and orient foreign-invested enterprises to connect with domestic companies, contributing to the formation and development of supply chains.

Furthermore, attention will be paid to enhancing cooperation between vocational education establishments and businesses and strengthening the position and efficiency of trade union organizations across the city, and reviewing the impact of the EVFTA on the labor, employment and social issues.

Additionally, Ha Noi will continue to promote the realization of Viet Nam’s commitments in multilateral agreements on the environment and wildlife preservation, while implementing the Voluntary Partnership Agreement on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (abbreviated as VPA-FLEGT) in the city.

Earlier, the Prime Minister has approved a plan to implement the EVFTA. The plan aims to assign tasks and responsibilities to agencies and organisations to decide on measures to implement the agreement.

In addition, they must focus on industrial restructuring, creating a foundation for industrialisation and modernisation; accelerating restructuring agriculture and rural economy; strengthening measures and mechanisms to encourage and orient foreign-invested enterprises to connect with domestic enterprises, contributing to the formation and development of supply chains.
