Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung said Ha Noi has taken effective measures against the increasingly-severe Covid-19 outbreak in the city, however putting the whole city under lock-down is not necessary.

Ha Noi is in danger of another Covid-19 outbreak due to the rising coronavirus cases in the community, he added.

The capital city’s authorities have prepared anti-pandemic facilities, including medical equipment and essential goods worth VND194,000 billion (US$8.3 million) in line with the anticipation for the worst-case scenario of up to 30,000 Covid-19 infections across the country, he stressed.

The municipal authorities will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Health to monitor the situation as well as promptly supporting the health centers under lockdown due to Covid-19, Dung said.

Mr. Dung added that heads of all level administrations are not allowed to be absent from their localities and they have to focus on the pandemic prevention and control. Irresponsible authorities will face punishment in case of the pandemic spread.

Earlier, the Ha Noi People's Committee approved a plan on free Covid-19 vaccination for people aged 18 to 65 in the period of 2021-2022.

The plan sets out the target that 95% of the at-risk people in the capital city will get vaccinated.

Ha Noi is one of the four missions that the municipal Party Committee has come up with to deal with the serious evolution of Covid-19 pandemic situation in the capital city.

Currently, Viet Nam is aiming at mass Covid-19 vaccination for its nearly 100 million people.

Its government on January 31 has requested the health ministry to purchase Covid-19 vaccines within the first quarter, using fund sourced from the national budget and other sources./.
