Ha Noi among world’s 100 smartest cities

This year's index was produced by the IMD World Competitiveness Center's Smart City Observatory in collaboration with the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO).

Ha Noi and HCM City were among the list in which Ha Noi was placed at the 97th place, moving up three steps from its previous ranking in 2023. The southern metropolis, HCM City was positioned at the 105th.

Ha Noi has eyed fast and sustainable development towards a green urban area and smart and modern city by 2025. The city also targets to become a smart and modern city and gradually connect with the regional and global smart urban area networks by 2030.

The city has reaped significant achievements in its digital transformation over the past time, with digital signatures being implemented and a common database carried out at the grassroots levels to better serve the settlement of administrative procedures.

The report ranks 142 smart cities worldwide based on data analysed by researchers, as well as survey responses of 120 residents in each city. The study captures an overview of how the infrastructure and technology available in a city impacts the city's performance and the quality of life of its inhabitants.

According to the IMD, a smart city is defined as "an urban setting that applies technology to enhance the benefits and diminish the shortcomings of urbanization for its citizens."

The top 10 smart cities, according to the 2024 Smart City Index include (1) Zurich, Switzerland, (2) Oslo, Norway, (3) Canberra, Australia, (4) Geneva, Switzerland, (5) Singapore, (6) Copenhagen, Denmark, (7) Lausanne, Switzerland, (8) London, England, (9) Helsinki, Finland and (10) Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates./.
