First int’l-grade data center comes into operation

VGP – Thăng Long Data Center, first international standard one ever built in Việt Nam, was put into operation yesterday.

The US $400 million project was jointly developed by Global Data Service Joint Stock Company (GDS), an affiliate of the Việt Nam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT), and Japanese NTT Communications.

The center is designed to help organizations and enterprises to manage their data more effectively and systematically with various security solutions.

It is fed with two alternating currents to make sure the uninterrupted operation in case of sudden electricity cut.

Data safety is a key factor for successful information technology application, said Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Nguyễn Minh Hồng, noting that the Thăng Long Data Center came into operation at the time when Việt Nam is speeding up IT application in various fields, trying to convert itself into one of the world’s leading IT powers.

International standard services will also be provided there, including room for servers, system integration, web hosting, high-speed Internet services and others.

The second data center would be developed by the GDS in Hồ Chí Minh City next year.
