Nguyen Duc Trung becomes Ha Noi’s new Chairman
VGP - Deputy Secretary of the city’s Party Committee Nguyen Duc Trung was elected as the new Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee in the 2021-2026 term.

All delegates at a special session of the Ha Noi People's Council on Thursday afternoon unanimously voted to elect Nguyen to the post for the 2021–2026 term.
He becomes the 11th chairman of Ha Noi since 1957, succeeding Tran Sy Thanh, who was elected by the Party Central Committee as Chairman of the 13th Central Inspection Commission on November 5.
Ha Noi's current administrative leadership also includes five vice chairpersons: Nguyen Trong Dong, Duong Duc Tuan, Nguyen Manh Quyen, Truong Viet Dung, and Vu Thu Ha.
Trung, 51, comes from Thanh Hoa Province. He holds a master's degree in political economy, as well as bachelor's degrees in economics and English. He spent many years at the Ministry of Planning and Investment, where he advanced through various positions from specialist to department head, director-general, and eventually deputy minister.
In 2020, he was reassigned to Nghe An Province, where he served as Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Civil Affairs Committee, and Chairman of the Nghe An People's Committee. Four years later, he was elected Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee for the 2020–2025 term and re-elected for the 2025–2030 term on October 2, 2025.
On November 7, the Politburo transferred and appointed Trung to the Ha Noi Party Committee, assigning him to its Executive and Standing Committees and naming him Deputy Secretary for the 2025–2030 term, while recommending him for election as Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee for the 2021–2026 term./.
