New Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee appointed
VGP - The Politburo appointed Tran Duc Thang as Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term, with the decision announced at a conference held on April 8.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Tran Cam Tu, and Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of its Organization Commission Nguyen Duy Ngoc.
Under the decision, Tran Duc Thang, who previously served as Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Minister of the ministry for the 2021–2026 term, will join the Hanoi Party Committee and its Standing Board for the 2025–2030 tenure.
Addressing the ceremony, Tran Cam Tu stated that the appointment was made in line with personnel requirements and the Party's overall cadre arrangement. He noted that Nguyen Duy Ngoc, former Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, has been assigned to the Party Central Committee's Secretariat and appointed head of its Organization Commission.
On behalf of the Politburo, he congratulated Tran Duc Thang on his new position, expressing confidence that he will build on the achievements of previous leadership generations and work closely with the municipal Party Committee to successfully fulfil assigned tasks.
He highlighted that Ha Noi is entering a critical stage of development, with priorities including achieving double-digit economic growth, improving the efficiency of the two-tier local administration model, and making breakthroughs in science-technology, innovation and digital transformation. The capital is also expected to continue taking the lead in implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress and resolutions of Party congresses at all levels.
He called on the Ha Noi Party Committee, its Standing Board, and relevant agencies to uphold unity, strengthen discipline, strictly observe Party principles and regulations, and support the new Secretary in performing his duties, while continuing efforts to build a clean and strong Party organization.
In his remarks, Tran Duc Thang expressed his honor at being entrusted with the role, describing it as both a privilege and a significant responsibility given Ha Noi's position as the country's political-administrative center.
He outlined key development orientations for the capital, including the Politburo's Resolution issued in March 2026 on building and developing Ha Noi in a new era, the revised Capital Law expected to be adopted at the first sitting of the 16th National Assembly, and the long-term master plan to develop Ha Noi into a globally competitive metropolis.
The new Secretary pledged to uphold unity within the municipal Party Committee, promote innovation and dynamism, accelerate economic growth, and ensure sustainable and balanced development across economic, cultural, social and environmental pillars.
He also affirmed his commitment to enhancing governance in a development-oriented and service-minded manner, with people's satisfaction, trust and well-being serving as key performance benchmarks.
Earlier, his predecessor, Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc, was assigned to the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee and appointed head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission./.
