According to Ha Noi Metro operator, passengers purchasing single-ride tickets will be able to use the Ha Noi Metro App to buy tickets and receive a QR code for gate access. Those without smartphones can purchase tickets at station counters and receive a single-use QR code sticker for entry.
Senior citizens aged 60 and above, who are entitled to free rides under the city's policy, can use their chip-based citizen ID cards to pass through the gates. They may also download the Ha Noi Metro App and complete the identification process to obtain digital tickets for free rides.
Passengers currently using pilot electronic tickets issued by the city's Traffic Management and Operation Center are advised to visit ticket counters for assistance.
Ha Noi Metro said the application of digital identity, electronic verification, and biometric technology represents a major step forward in passenger service and operational management.
"The new system enhances safety, reduces risks, and improves convenience, contributing to the development of a modern and smart public transport network in the capital," the operator emphasized.
Thai Ho Phuong, Director of the Ha Noi Public Transport Management Center, said the upgrade is part of the city's broader digital transformation effort to improve the quality of public transport services.
The new ticketing system is expected to offer smarter and more convenient payment options, supporting the city government's drive toward non-cash transactions and creating a more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly experience for metro passengers.
As of June 2024, the railway route served for over 25 million passengers (since opening in November 2021). A daily average of around 32,000 passengers on weekdays at the time of reporting./.
