Ha Noi to roll out comprehensive AI education for students during 2026–2027 school year
VGP - The Ha Noi Department of Education and Training issued a plan to implement AI education for general education students and continuing education learners across the city.
The move marks an important shift for the city's education sector, transitioning AI education from the pilot stage to official and comprehensive implementation across all educational institutions from the 2026–2027 school year.
Under the plan, all of general education students and students of continuing education programs at upper and secondary levels have full access to core AI education content.
A standardized teaching allocation of 12 periods per class per school year has been set. The content will be delivered through thematic modules integrated into the two-session-per-day teaching schedule, with equal application across all types of schools and localities, regardless of socio-economic conditions.
To ensure feasibility and accommodate differences in staff capacity and infrastructure among localities, Ha Noi will adopt a three-tier implementation model:
Tier 1 – Foundation: Mandatory for all of educational institutions, ensuring the full delivery of 12 core AI education periods.
Tier 2 – Expansion: Designed for high-quality educational institutions and schools that voluntarily register after meeting the required standards. For the 2026–2027 school year, the city aims to have at least 50 schools participate.
Tier 3 – Advanced and Career-Oriented: To be implemented at four specialized upper-secondary schools and at least 10 key schools, with close cooperation among research institutes, universities and technology enterprises.
In terms of content, the AI education program is structured around four core competency areas: (A) human-centered thinking, (B) AI ethics, (C) AI techniques and applications, and (D) AI system design.
The program will be delivered flexibly through three formats: mandatory AI education thematic modules; integration and reinforcement of AI-related knowledge within existing subjects; and optional AI clubs and learning projects tailored to students' needs./.
