90,000 Tet gift packages will be given to near-poor households and people facing exceptional hardship across the capital for Lunar New Year 2026

Of the total, VND5.28 billion (US$201,000) will be sourced from the city's "For the Poor" Fund to provide 5,280 gift packages, each valued at VND1 million (US$38).

Beyond this fund, the VFF Committee will also organize support programs for struggling workers and union members during Tet. An estimated 84,000 additional gift packages worth VND74.5 billion (US$2.8 million) are set to be distributed.

A central feature of the initiative is the "Compassionate Spring – Sharing Tet" event, scheduled for February 5 in the suburban district of Thuong Tin. The program aims to extend support to vulnerable groups while reinforcing the city's long-standing spirit of solidarity and community care.

Beneficiaries include families under government welfare policies, workers from ethnic minority communities, people unable to return to their hometowns for extended periods, and those required to remain on duty throughout the holiday. Priority will be given to individuals facing illness, work-related accidents, job loss, reduced hours, delayed or unpaid wages, or missing year-end bonuses.

Ha Noi will also launch other Tet-focused initiatives, including online Tet markets, welfare visits to citizens with meritorious service, and outreach programs for armed forces units on duty during the holiday.

More than 6 million Vietnamese to receive cash gifts

Separately, more than 6.2 million people nationwide – including revolutionary contributors recognized for meritorious service and social welfare beneficiaries – will receive VND400,000 (US$15) each as part of gift programs marking the 14th National Party Congress and the 2026 Tet holiday.

The Ministry of Finance confirmed that it has disbursed VND2.513 trillion (US$95.6 million) to provinces and cities to support the initiative. The 14th National Party Congress is set to take place in Ha Noi from January 19 to 25, followed by Tet celebrations in mid-February.

Local authorities have been instructed to ensure distribution is timely, transparent, and conducted in full compliance with regulations.

An estimated 6.3 million people will benefit, including 1.6 million individuals recognized for meritorious service to the revolution and 4.6 million recipients of social protection support and pensions.

Tet, Viet Nam's most significant traditional holiday, is marked annually by family reunions, cultural festivities and nationwide travel./.
