Ha Noi is enlarging its public bike-sharing network to promote green transport and ease traffic congestion.

The Ha Noi People's Committee has approved the installation of 49 additional bicycle racks, raising the total to 140. The upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to encourage residents and tourists to explore the capital's historic streets in an eco-friendly way.

Tri Nam Digital Transport Service JSC, the system's operator, will place the new racks along the Cat Linh–Ha Dong urban railway and in key districts including Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, and Ha Dong. About 500 more bicycles will be deployed to meet rising demand, particularly at high-traffic stations such as Thai Ha, Cat Linh, Thuong Dinh, Van Quan, Ha Dong, and Phung Khoang.

Additional racks will be set up in busy urban spots like Le Thanh Tong Street near the University of Pharmacy, Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hang Trong Street, and Tho Nhuom Street in Hoan Kiem District; the Giang Vo area and Xanh Pon Hospital in Ba Dinh District; as well as residential and administrative hubs in Ha Dong District.

Launched in August 2023, Ha Noi's bike-sharing program—operated by Tri Nam Group JSC—is still in its pilot phase, which has been extended until the end of 2025. The service has drawn over 208,000 registered users and recorded about 340,000 trips as of early 2025.

Despite its growing popularity, the program faces financial challenges due to low rental fees and high operating costs. Users, however, have praised its convenience and environmental benefits, while calling for more bicycles at tourist hotspots and improved bike comfort./.
