Ha Noi doubles efforts to complete Red River bridges ahead of APEC 2027
VGP - The authorities of Ha Noi have urged project owners and contractors to mobilize additional manpower and accelerate construction of key bridge projects, aiming to complete them by July 2027 to support the APEC Summit and the city's goal of achieving double-digit economic growth.

On July 21, the Ha Noi People's Committee convened a meeting to review site clearance and construction progress for bridge projects spanning the Red River.
According to the Ha Noi Traffic Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, the Tu Lien Bridge project has completed site handover, with only the relocation of several technical infrastructure facilities remaining.
For the Ngoc Hoi Bridge, the board has requested the authorities of Thanh Tri and Dai Thanh communes to complete site clearance by the end of July 2026.
Regarding the Tran Hung Dao Bridge, the underground relocation of power lines is scheduled for completion before August 25. Compensation payments for land under military management have been completed, with site handover targeted before July 30.
At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee Bui Duy Cuong acknowledged the efforts of relevant departments, local authorities and contractors in carrying out site clearance and construction of the city's seven bridge projects.
He stressed that the river-crossing bridges are of strategic importance to Ha Noi's development.
He urged project owners and contractors to continue mobilizing resources and accelerating construction to complete the projects by July 2027, in time for the APEC Summit, while contributing to the city's double-digit growth target.
The Vice Chairman also instructed project owners to ensure dyke safety during the rainy season while making maximum use of favorable construction conditions. The Department of Agriculture and Environment was assigned to establish task forces to closely monitor the daily progress of each project.
Regarding the Thuong Cat Bridge, currently the slowest-moving among the seven Red River bridge projects, city leaders requested the Department of Construction and the Ha Noi Traffic Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board to work with contractors to identify the causes of delays and expedite implementation.
According to the city's master plan, the seven Red River bridge projects under implementation are Tu Lien, Tran Hung Dao, Thuong Cat, Ngoc Hoi, Van Phuc, Hong Ha and Me So.
Among them, Tu Lien Bridge was the first to break ground, with a total investment of approximately VND 20 trillion. The project extends more than 11.5 km, including a nearly 1-km main bridge spanning the Red River. The bridge is 43-44 meters wide and comprises six traffic lanes, linking Tay Ho and Dong Anh and creating a new development corridor north of the Red River.
Tran Hung Dao Bridge, one of Ha Noi's key infrastructure projects, has a total investment of nearly VND 16 trillion. The 5.6-km project comprises six lanes for motor vehicles, two bicycle lanes and two pedestrian lanes, with a design speed of 80 km/h. It will connect Hoan Kiem and Long Bien and is expected to be substantially completed by the end of 2027.
Both Thuong Cat Bridge and Ngoc Hoi Bridge will have eight lanes, including six for motor vehicles and two for non-motorized traffic. Thuong Cat Bridge is a 5.226-km cable-stayed bridge with a total investment of more than VND 7.3 trillion from the city budget. Scheduled for completion in 2027, it is expected to ease traffic congestion on Thang Long Bridge while supporting urban expansion and high-tech development in northern Ha Noi.
Ngoc Hoi Bridge forms part of the Ring Road 3.5 project, connecting Thanh Tri in Ha Noi with Van Giang in Hung Yen Province. With a total investment of approximately VND 11.8 trillion, the bridge will reduce congestion on Thanh Tri Bridge and create new development opportunities in southern and southeastern Ha Noi.
Van Phuc Bridge, with an investment of more than VND 3.4 trillion, will extend from the junction with National Highway 32 to the Ha Noi–Phu Tho boundary, opening a new gateway to the northwest.
Hong Ha Bridge, with a total investment of nearly VND 10 trillion, together with Ring Road 4, will strengthen regional connectivity and significantly reduce travel time between Ha Noi and neighboring provinces.
Meanwhile, Me So Bridge, with an investment of nearly VND 4.9 trillion, will connect Van Giang (Hung Yen Province) with Thuong Tin (Ha Noi). As part of Ring Road 4, it is expected to play an important role in promoting industrial and urban development in southern Ha Noi.
Once completed, the seven bridge projects will expand Ha Noi's urban development space, strengthen regional connectivity, and ease traffic congestion in the capital's central areas./.
