Ha Noi aims to complete at least 18,700 social housing units in 2026
VGP - Ha Noi is stepping up efforts to remove bottlenecks related to planning, land, site clearance and investment procedures in order to accelerate social housing development.
The capital city has identified social housing development as one of the key priorities requiring accelerated implementation, not only to meet residents' housing needs but also to contribute to the capital's broader socio-economic development goals.
As of the end of July 2026, the city had approved investment policies and assigned investors for 116 housing projects, covering a total land area of approximately 4,005,731 square meters and providing for 101,295 apartments.
Beyond addressing immediate projects, Ha Noi is preparing a much larger supply of social housing for the 2026–2030 period.
Under the list of housing and urban development projects included in Ha Noi's Housing Development Plan for 2026–2030, the city plans to carry out more than 40 social housing projects, with total investment estimated at nearly VND 77.4 trillion (nearly US$3 billion) and expects to provide approximately 41,600 apartments.
This long-term preparation of housing supply is being coupled with efforts to accelerate implementation from 2026. Under Directive No. 16 on promoting social housing development in Ha Noi in conjunction with socio-economic growth objectives, the city aims to complete at least 18,700 social housing units in 2026, in line with the target assigned by the Prime Minister.
At the same time, the city is striving to have around 25,000–27,000 apartments ready to be placed on the market.
The city has also set a target of commencing construction on all 114 social housing projects during the second half of 2026. Investors have been asked to accelerate implementation so that around 77 projects can complete their foundations, making approximately 46,100 apartments eligible to be brought to the market./.
