The General Department on Customs reported that the two-way trade turnover between Viet Nam and the Czech Republic hit US$ 249.8 million, including US$ 148.8 million of export and US$ 103.6 million of import.

So far, the Czech Republic is one of Viet Nam’s leading traders in the Central and Eastern Europe. The country chiefly ships machines, mechanical spare parts, electricity equipment, and plastics to Viet Nam. In return, the Czech Republic imports footwear, machines, and mechanical raw materials.

HPA Director Nguyen Gia Phuong stressed that the Czech Republic and Viet Nam enjoyed friendly relations with over 60,000 overseas Vietnamese  living in the European country, making the 14th nationality there. However, the rate of bilateral trade and investment remains modest and far from expectations.

Czech investors have poured only US$ 10 million of FDI in around 16 small-scale projects in Ha Noi.

As scheduled, the Viet Nam-Czech business forum will be held on June 6 in Ha Noi, expecting to attract 56 businessmen from 44 Czech famous enterprises.

Mr. Phuong was convinced that the forum would promote investment, trade, and tourism relations between the two countries in general and Ha Noi and the Czech business community in particular./.
