The heritage site is a relic complex associated with the history of formation and development of the capital Thang Long-Ha Noi. This is a massive architectural work constructed by dynasties over many periods and is one of the most important relics in Viet Nam’s relic system.

At 8.30pm (Brazilian local time) on July 31, 2010 (6.30am on August 1, 2010, Vietnamese local time), UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee adopted a resolution on the recognition of the Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long as a World Heritage Site, exactly 1,000 years since King Ly Thai To chose Thang Long as the capital.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh affirmed that through ups and downs, Thang Long-Ha Noi still preserves valuable historical and cultural relics as well as unique cultural values.

The Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long is a typical heritage and a testament to the heroic history and longevity of Thang Long-Ha Noi, he said.

Anh added that in the coming stage, Ha Noi would continue to exert greater efforts, promote creativity and seize domestic and international cooperation opportunities to preserve and promote the heritage’s values.

UNESCO Chief Representative in Viet Nam Michael Croft highly appreciated Ha Noi’s efforts in fulfilling its commitments to UNESCO on preserving and promoting heritage values at the Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.

He called on the Thang Long-Ha Noi Heritage Conservation Center, partners and the people to exert greater efforts in preserving and advertising the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long heritage site, as well as enriching contemporary cultural values from traditional culture and strengthening interaction, love and care for the heritage for Ha Noi’s stronger development in the future./.
