Capital to launch 45-55 new bus routes in 2021

Under the mass transit development scheme, the city's bus fleet will have 2,720 to 2,900 vehicles, of which, the proportion of vehicles using clean energy will reach at least 5-10%. 

The municipal transport authority will rationalize the public transport network to increase connectivity and the transfer of passengers between buses and the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway line and the Nhon-Ha Noi Railway Station line after these two are put into operation.

According to a report from the municipal People’s Committee, the mass transit network in Ha Noi is currently having 126 bus routes covering 30 districts and towns, 453 out of 579 communes, wards and towns, reaching 66 out of 71 hospitals, and 296 out of 708 secondary and high schools as well as 32 out of 37 industrial zones in the city.

According to an expansion plan of mass transit network in 2021-30, the city’s public transport network will be expanded by 80% to 90% to ensure the people’s accessibility by 2030, and meet the criteria that people anywhere in the city could hop on a bus in a radius of 500 meters. 

Earlier, the Ha Noi People's Committee issued a plan for the expansion of the city’s mass transit network in the 2021-2030 period.

The city also aims to soon complete two schemes namely "Collecting toll on vehicles in some urban areas at risk of traffic congestion and environmental pollution" and "Zoning to curb motorbikes in accordance with infrastructure and service capacity of public transport system to ban motorbikes in the districts in 2030".

Besides, the city will build more interchange infrastructure, organize traffic in the direction of giving priority to the public transport and encourage people to use public transport services instead of private vehicles.

The municipal authorities will define the mode of mass transit, number of vehicles and the network for each period, ensuring connectivity in the highly populated areas./.
