Capital strives to balance sex ratio at birth

The Ha Noi Steering Committee for Population and Family Planning convened a meeting on November 26 to review the implementation of Resolution 15/2016/NQ-HDND on some measures to improve population and family planning work in the 2016-2020 period.
In 2020, the city is forecast to have a total population of 8.3 million, accounting for 8.4% of the national total figure.
The total fertility rate (TFR) is 2.1 children per woman. The birth rate yearly dropped by 0.1%.
Regarding population structure, the city has initially controlled sex imbalances at birth. In 2020, Ha Noi’s sex ratio at birth is 113 boys/100 girls. Prenatal screening rate reached 80%. Newborn screening rate was 85%. Malnutrition rate among children under 5 years old was projected to hit 7.7% in 2020./.
