The local authorities also suspended unnecessary events and called on people to strictly observe disease prevention measures.

The elderly and people with chronic diseases are encouraged to avoid mass gathering events.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism called for more preventive measures to ensure safety during the 2022 Tet festival and asked units and localities to suspend the organization of festivals and firework displays on the occasion.

Previously, Ha Noi said it will not organize its usual Lunar New Year's Eve firework display at the Thong Nhat Park over Covid-19 concerns.

Over the past month, Ha Noi, with a population of nine million people,  reported an average of 3,000 Covid infection cases/day, the highest among cities and provinces nationwide.

So far, 9.7% of adults aged above 18 in Ha Noi have been given the first shot while 98% of those aged above 50 are double dosed.

Meanwhile, the majority of children aged 12-17 have been double-vaccinated. In addition, the city is offering booster shots which are expected to be completed in the first quarter of this year./.
