WB supports HN to develop transport & water drainage

VGP – Chairman of the Ha Noi Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung hosted a reception for Country Director for the World Bank in Viet Nam Ousmane Dione on March 12 in Ha Noi.

The Country Director revealed that the WB would continue to assist Ha Noi in developing the public transport system and drainage network by 2030 towards 2050. 

Mr. Ousmane Dione said that the international lender has provided technical support for Ha Noi to perfect the transport system; analyze advantages and disadvantages of transport network development; consider engagement of the private sector in transport area. 

So far, the WB has mobilized US$ 550,000 to provide technical support for the local transport system. A WB group will discuss with the local authorities in the coming time. 

According to Mr. Ousmane Dione, Ha Noi is a city with high growth pace and fast urbanization speed. The city is facing serious pollution problems, especially air and water resources. The environmental management task plays an important role in ensuring socio-economic development in the city. 

Meanwhile, the WB also backed the local authorities in managing the drainage network by 2030 with a vision towards 2050. 

The international lender will also provide technical assistance for the city to renovate lakes and canals to improve water quality; compose anti-flooding projects; improve the drainage system at the Nhue River. 

Chairman Chung said that last year, the local authorities of Ha Noi dredged 83 out of 124 lakes and work with a Germany company to treat water contamination

Mr. Chung proposed the WB support Ha Noi to plan the sewage system development by 2030 with a vision towards 2050./.
