Tourism sector sets three development scenarios for 2021

VGP – The local tourism sector has crafted three development scenarios with a view to receiving 10.96-15.34 million visitors and 2.2-3.7 million foreign arrivals.

Mr. Hue assessed that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused huge impacts on the tourism sector across the globe. In Ha Noi, the sector contributed 3.4% of GRDP. 

He was convinced that tourism recovery represents the most important factor for the city to fulfill the preset goals for 2021 and generate jobs and ensure budget. 

Director of the Ha Noi Tourism Department Dang Huong Giang reported that the local tourism sector has been seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of arrival accounted for only 30% of that in 2019. A large number of travel agents have to suspend or stop operation. 

Specifically, the city welcomed 8.65 million guests, down 70% against 2019 including 1.11 million of foreign visitors (down 84.4%) and 7.54 million of domestic guests (down 65%). Up to 90% of travel agents have to suspend operation. Meanwhile, 950 out of 3,587 accommodation sites temporarily closed doors. 

Total tourism revenue was projected at VND 28 trillion (US$ 1.21 billion), down 73% against 2019.
