The capital city’s 11th air quality monitoring station located

The event saw the attendance of Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, French Ambassador to Viet Nam Bertrand Lortholary and Chairwoman of the Île-de-France (Paris region) ValériePécresse.

It is a highlight in the 30 years of relationship between Ha Noi and the Île-de-France (Paris region).

This station together with other 10 installed citywide provides data for thorough researches on air pollution as well as identifying the level of pollution and causes.

The French Ambassador said the air quality monitoring station, linked with the city’s overall air observation network, is a step further in an effort to improve air quality in Ha Noi. Provided by France’s Envea, it is within the framework of a technical support project by AFD/Airparif, which helped install ten stations in Ha Noi earlier.

Ambassador Lortholary said that coping with climate change is one of the most prioritized field in Vietnam – France cooperation, therefore, the embassy signed an agreement with the Ha Noi People's Committee on improving air quality back in 2016.

He also expressed his belief that an air quality monitoring station at the embassy is a highlight in the 30 years of relationship between Ha Noi and the Île-de-France (Paris region).

In addition, the embassy displayed a 3D model of “Hoan Kiem Air”, which is an interactive simulation of pollution caused by urban traffic. There has been another similar model installed at the Hanoi People’s Committee. The model helps warn and define the areas with highest concentration of vehicles which could potentially cause air pollution.

Currently, Ha Noi has 15 environmental monitoring stations, including 10 automated air quality monitoring stations, and 5 water monitoring stations. 

This year and next year, the capital city plans to install an additional 95 air quality monitoring stations. To deal with air pollution, Ha Noi also plans to plant 600,000 trees by 2020.
