The project, which has been carried out by the HaNoi Municipal People’s Committee (HMPC), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Government of Japan, is aimed to preserve the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Ha Noi’s first heritage recognized by the UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage.

During the past three years, the project has yielded practical outcomes in managing, preserving and promoting the heritage’s values, which have been initially evaluated through fundamental historical and archaeological studies.

The project also helps enhance Vietnamese experts’ methodological capacity in historical study, urban archaeology and relic reservation, management and promotion through components of devising a plan on managing the heritage and developing and testing a geographic information system (GIS).

It has contributed to promoting the popularisation of the heritage to the world and international friends, particularly  tours to the heritage via research books, souvenirs and a heritage brand identifier.

Ha Noi will continue to promote the project’s outcomes by directing relevant agencies to implement effectively the plan on managing the heritage and promoting cooperation with international experts in studying and implementing other projects related to the heritage, especially projects on studying tangible and intangible heritage, said HMPC Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc.

The city will also monitor the GIS development in managing the heritage, relic sites and relics, enhance promotion and communication about the heritage and improve capacity of officers who are engaged in preserving and managing the heritage.
