Ten outstanding youths honored

VGP – The Ha Noi Youth Union on February 1 held a ceremony to honor 10 outstanding young people of the city in 2017.

This is the ninth year the Union honored outstanding young people and the first year it presented awards to young people who stood out in creative business start-up.

The honored youth included Dinh Quang Hieu, a student of the University of Natural Sciences, the Viet Nam National University –Ha Noi. He won two gold medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad in two consecutive years of 2016 and 2017. Notably, in 2017, he was ranked ninth among 297 contestants with 92.13 points, contributing to the highest achievements that Viet Nam has obtained at an International Chemistry Olympiad.

Vu Huy Cang, a student of the Electricity Power University, was honored when working as a motorbike taxi driver, earnestly gave back a sum of VND 320 million (US$ 14,070) left out by his customer. 

Addressing the event, Secretary of the Ha Noi Youth Union Nguyen Van Thang said that the youth people were honored for their outstanding performance in all fields including study, scientific research, creative labor, economic development, national defense, sports, arts, culture, and creative business start-up. 

The Secretary hoped that they would continue to spare no effort to maintain success and contribution to local and national development. 

On this occasion, 16 outstanding start-up young entrepreneurs of Ha Noi in 2017 were honored at the event. In addition, a start-up consultation group made debut; targeting to provide support and counseling for young people in the city.

Five players of the U23 Viet Nam team, who are members of Hanoi’s football clubs, were also honored at the event. They received VND 20 million (about US$ 879) each for their outstanding performances at the freshly concluded Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Championship.

The Vietnamese football team became the runner-up at the AFC U23 Championship 2018 held in China after losing 1-2 to Uzbekistan in the final./.
