Chairman of the Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung.

The Steering Committee on Ha Noi international integration reported that in 2017, the administrative reform was promoted, contributing to improving the business and investment environment; raise satisfactory levels of people and businesses in administrative transactions and public services. IT application was increased. In 2016, provincial competitiveness index jumped ten notches against 2015, ranking 14th out of 63 provinces and cities.

Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) picked up 7.3% against 2016. Export surged sharply, making important contribution to local economic development.

Export turnover hit US$ 11.7 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of 10.3%. The city also took the lead in FDI attraction. So far, the city attracted US$ 27.64 billion with 4,250 valid projects and the amount of FDI disbursement was about US$ 14.5 billion.

The international integration achieved encouraging outcomes. However, the city still coped with abundant challenges including the lack of active spirit, close and inadequate cooperation, poor competitiveness, big competition with foreign businesses; and slow labor productivity.

The Steering committee attributed the shortcomings to unsynchronized mechanisms and policies and slow introduction of new policies.

In 2018, the city will resolve the weaknesses; review the legal system in all fields; reform administrative procedures; improve investment and businesses; convert tourism into the spearhead industry; build new rural areas; research new technical applications.

Addressing the event, Chairman Chung asked departments, sectors, and businesses to alter awareness; catch up with new technologies; encourage investment in favor of win-win benefits and technological transfer; enable high-quality projects in such areas as State management, healthcare, agriculture, socio-economic development, and culture; and promote cooperation with other provinces in the Northern region./.
