Public transport to meet 21% of demands by 2020
VGP – The bus system will handle about 17.3% of transport demand s by late 2019 and 20% to 21% by 2020, the Ha Noi Transport Department reported.

Director of the Ha Noi Transport Department Vu Van Vien reported that traffic congestion has been fundamentally handled. In 2018, the city had only 33 traffic congestion hotspots. By early July, 2019, the number fell to only 27.
The local public transport system met 15.7% of passengers’ demands.
By the end of 2019, the bus system is expected to handle about 17.3% of transport demand. By 2020, the system will meet 20-21% of demand.
However, Director Vien acknowledged some shortcomings including complicated traffic congestion and rapidly increasing number of personal vehicles.
In addition, public transport has only focused on bus transport due to slow progress of the metro railway system.
The Ha Noi People’s Committee directed the Department to focus on three metro lines namely 2, 3 and 5./.
