Population and family planning work targets exceeded

VGP – In 2019, preset goals on population and family planning work were fulfilled, serving to achieve the five-year plans (2016-2020).

The Department of Health reported that the plans on population and family planning work has been fulfilled. Birth rate hit 15‰, down 0.13‰ against 2018. The number of third child born was 7,892, accounting for 6.5%, down 0.1%.   

The rate of prenatal screening hit 80%, fulfilling preset goals. 

Regarding population scale, Ha Noi was the second most densely populated in Viet Nam with 8.09 million people (after HCMC), accounting for 8.4% of the country. The total fertility rate (TFR) was 2.1. The rate of third child born was decreased, by unsustainably . 

Under the National Census on Population and Housing, each year, the city has additional 160,000 persons, equivalent to the population of a district, imposing heavy pressure on socio-economic development. Population density is unbalanced between urban and suburb areas. 

Regarding population structure, sex ratio was 98.28 males per females. The sex ratio at birth was 112.9 boys per 100 girls. Population is aging. So far, Ha Noi in particular and the whole country is enjoying the golden populationstructure with preferential conditions for socio-economic development. 

In 2020, the city will target to reduce crude birth rate by 0.1 ‰ against 2019; cut the rate of third child babies by 0.1% against 2019; and ensure sex ratio at birth with less than 113 boys per 100 girls./.
