VGP - A national ceremonial singing (Ca tru) festival will be organized in Ha Noi in late August with the aim at preserving the UNESCO-recognised intangible cultural heritage.

This kind of singing is now practised in 15 provinces and cities throughout the country.

The festival is aimed to propagate and advertise conservation outcomes of ceremonial singing in the 2010-2014 period.

In addition, the festival also offers an opportunity to encourage young ceremonial singers to engage in its art.
Ca tru, also known as Hat a dao, was recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in October 2009.

Ca tru singing appeared in the north around the 15th century and thrived until the early 20th century. Since then, it has lost popularity to imports of modern recreational forms and cultural activities.

On the occasion, managers should propose to UNESCO to change ceremonial singing from the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity./.
