Mayor receives Singaporean Ambassador to VN

VGP - Chairman of the Ha N oi People's Committee, Nguyen Duc Chung has received Singaporean Ambassador to Viet N am, Catherine Wong on February 26 in Ha Noi.

At the reception,  Chung appreciated the proposals of the Singaporean Ambassador on promoting bilateral relations, including the Singapore Festival in Ha Noi. 

In addition, he affirmed that the two sides’ expanded cultural exchange is a good opportunity for the people of both countries to further understand and build a foundation to improve the relationship between Viet Nam and Singapore.

Mr. Chung expected the respective business communities from two countries will carry out more exchanges in the field of tourism and health within the framework of the upcoming visit by the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore to Viet Nam.

Emphasizing that Singapore and Ha Noi have many similarities, the Ha Noi mayor said that the capital is actively cooperating with the greenery company of Singapore, and wishes to continue learning from Singapore to become an eco-city.

He wants to exchange more experiences towards smart city, building e-government from Singapore, through cooperation with leading technology public enterprises from that country.

The chairman also shared his feeling of honor and excitement when Ha Noi and Singapore were both chosen as the venues for the U.S. - North Korea summits

In turn, Singaporean Ambassador to Viet Nam Catherine Wong congratulated Ha Noi for being the venue for the second U.S. - North Korea summit on February 27 and 28.

Discuss iscussing about cooperation issues, the ambassador expressed optimism on Ha Noi's economic development potential as the city became the Viet Nam's top FDI attraction in 2018. Singapore, as one of the biggest investors in Ha Noi, expect its investors to expand their operations here in the coming time, Catherine Wong emphasized.

The capital city is one of the members of ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN), an initiative that Singapore launched last year as ASEAN chair. This is also one of Ha Noi's development objectives. The ambassador affirmed that Singapore with experience and success in becoming a smart city is willing to share with Ha Noi.

Next year, Ha Noi will also host the Formula 1 (F1) race, like the event Singapore held in 2008. The Singaporean ambassador expects this will also be the area which the two sides can share experience.

Deputy PM of Singapore Teo Chee Hean will make an official visit to Viet Nam from March 21 to 26. In Ha Noi, besides the meeting with Vietnamese leaders, Deputy PMTeo Chee Hean will attend the opening ceremony of the Singapore Festival from March 23 to 24. This is expected to be a unique event, introducing to Hanoians the quintessence of Singaporean culture, according to the ambassador.
