VGP – The Ha Noi Police investigated and took legal proceedings against a case relating to a blaze which killed 13 people at a karaoke bar in the city’s Cầu Giấy District on Tuesday.

Firefighters in cranes doused the flames

Most of the victims were government officials at a staff party being held in a multi-storey building in Ha Noi.

PM  Nguyen Xuan Phuc on November 1 tasked the Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee to  immediately investigate the cause of the fire and "seriously punish wrongdoings."

The local authorities were asked to timely support victims and their relatives; inspect karaoke bars and restaurants for fire safety and equipment and shut down the outlets that failed to meet fire preventive measures.

On early November 2, on the sidelines of the ongoing National Assembly session, Ha Noi's Party Secretary Hoang Trung Hai assessed that this was an extremely serious and unfortunate accident. The leader conveyed his deep sympathy to families of victims. Earlier, the Party leader also directly came to the location to direct rescue and relief operations.

The fire might have been sparked around lunchtime on by construction inside the building and trapped patrons likely suffocated inside the windowless karaoke rooms.

The flames quickly spread to engulf three neighboring buildings as clouds of black smoke filled the air. Hundreds of firemen and police officers were mobilized to extinguish the fire. Two police officers were being treated for injuries sustained while trying to douse the flames./.
