VGP – Ha Noi’s tourism sector welcomed more than 6 million arrivals of international tourists in the first 11 months of 2019, the second consecutive year that the city has achieved such number.
According to statistics from the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), the proportion of visitors traveling by air to Viet Nam has always overwhelmed other modes of transport (road, sea). During the January-November period, international tourist arrivals to Viet Nam reached nearly 16.3 million, including over 13 million travelling by air.
Also, the number of international tourist arrivals to Ha Noi by air has always accounted for 80% or above, especially as the city’s International Noi Bai Airport has maintained a position on the list of the global 100 best airports by the UK-based airline and airport review and rating organization Skytrax since 2016. Statistics from the Ha Noi Department of Tourism show that there are currently nearly 40 international airlines operating flights to Noi Bai.
The Government has recently approved the adjustment of Noi Bai Airport’s capacity to 100 million passengers per year to address overload and ensure the goal of long-term and sustainable development.
Thanks to the decision, in recent years, international and domestic airlines have continuously launched new routes and increased their flight frequency to Ha Noi and vice versa. As shown from the VNAT statistics, the airlines opening new routes or increasing flight frequency to the capital city Hanoi are mainly from Asia, particularly from the Northeast Asian countries and territories.
Among Ha Noi’s top 10 international tourist markets in recent years, the Republic of Korea, China and Japan have always occupied the three leading positions. With itscurrent infrastructure system and tourism products, it is quite likely for Ha Noi to welcome more international visitors.
Deputy General Director of the VNAT Ha Van Sieu said: “The development of aviation has already been and will strongly impact the number of international visitors to Viet Nam, including Ha Noi. Obviously, these are the great opportunities for the tourism industry of the country as a whole and of the capital city in particular.”
