ID card with personal identification number to be issued

VGP - From January 2014, the capital city will issue new Identity Card with personal identification number for citizens from 14 years old and above, said a senior official of the Ministry of Public Security.

According to Major General Tran Van Ve, deputy head of the Police General Department for Administrative Management of Social Order and Safety, after being implemented in four districts, the new ID card with personal identification number will be issued in city’s 27 districts from January 2014. 

Each ID card has personal identification number with 12 digits instead of only 9 in current ones, which correspond to personal details, such as name, age, blood type, and gender. It will be granted for Vietnamese citizens from 14 years old and above.

Once granted, citizens can use ID card to replace all current personal papers, such as birth certificate, marriage registration and passport. 

Regarding national population database, information will be collected by the Ministry of Public Security from now to the end of 2015 and the Ministry of Justice from January 2016.
