The capital city of Hà Nội will switch off its lighting system in a number of public areas and streets from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm on March 31 to support this year’s Earth Hour.
Sponsored by the World Wide Fund for Nature and first implemented in 2007 in Australia, the event aims to raise people’s awareness of saving power and using it more efficiently to reduce the negative impacts of climate change.
Lights in key areas surrounding Sword Lake, Ngọc Sơn temple, Thê Húc bridge and Hà Nội Opera House will be turned off in an hour.
To respond to this annual event, Hội An city of the central province of Quảng Nam will turn off the lights from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm on March 26.
Candles will be lit and various cultural activities will be organized, including the release of flower boats on the Hoài river and artistic street performances.
