HN targets to cut raw material use rate by 5-8% by 2025

VGP - The Capital has set a goal to reduce raw material use rate by 5-8% in the 2021-2025 period among production sectors namely garments and textiles, beverage, steel, plastic, chemicals, and paper.

This is part of a decision of the Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee to implement Decision 889/QD-TTg on approving the national action plan on sustainable production and consumption for the period 2021 – 2030, dated June 24, 2020. 

Under the new decision, all districts and communes will target to raise awareness on sustainable consumption. All industrial parks and 70% of trade villages will access to knowledge on sustainable consumption. All supermarkets and commercial centers will distribute and use environmentally friendly packing products; gradually getting rid of single use disposable plasticbags.

The decision aims to build and promote sustainable supply chains; enable the distribution of environmentally friendly products at supermarkets and commercial centers.

The city plans to put aside VND 65 billion (US$ 2.73 million) of local budget to realize the preset goals. 

The Department of Industry and Trade is in charge of working with relevant departments, People’s Committees of districts and communes to implement the decision. 

Viet Nam is a small country, ranking 68th in area and 15th in population scale in the world. However, the country is positioned at the fourth place in annual plastic discharging with 1.83 million tons of plastic waste of which only 27% is recycled./.
