HN targets to completely eliminate single-use plastics by 2025

These goals are parts of the plan issued by the Ha Noi’s Department of Industry and Trade on “Plastic waste prevention in industrial production and consumer distribution in the 2019-2020 period. 

Accordingly, in the 2019-2020 period, 100% of commercial centers, supermarkets, markets, restaurants, and hotels will pledge to prevent single-use plastics. 

Production enterprises will gradually reduce percentages of plastic materials. All factory trash will be collected and categorized. 

By 2025, the city will no longer produce single-use plastics or disposable plastic bags. 

By December 31, 2020, 100% of commercial centers, supermarkets, hotels and restaurants will get rid of disposable plastic bags.

Markets will be forced to cut 50% of disposable plastic bags. 

Disposable plastic bags will be replaced by natural and environmentally friendly products including lotus and banana leaves, biodegradable bags, biodegradable plastic wrap products.

The Ha Noi Department of Industry and Trade will disseminate regulations on prevention of single-use plastics; raise awareness and responsibilities for citizens, organizations, and enterprises on environmental protection and climate change response in favor of economic development and sustainable growth./.
