HN shares agricultural development experience with Sri Lanka

VGP – Chairman of the Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung hosted a reception for new Sri Lankan Ambassador to Viet Nam Sampath Prasanna Walpita Gamage on October 31 in Ha Noi.

Chairman Chung congratulated Mr.  Sampath Prasanna Walpita Gamage who was appointed as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Viet Nam. 

Mr. Chung took the occasion to congratulate the State and people of Sri Lanka on national development. 

The host leader highlighted cultural similarities between Ha Noi and Colombo. In addition, both Vietnamese and Sri Lankan people respect for Buddhism which is regarded as national religion. 

He went on to say that there are wide doors for the two countries to tap in such areas as trade, education, tourism, and agriculture. 

Mr. Chung proposed the two sides boost cooperation in investment, tourism, and overseas study.  

The host leader hoped that the newly-accredited Ambassador would help boost the bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam especially in the context that the two countries would mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2020. 

The Chairman pledged that Ha Noi stands ready to support Sri Lankan artistic groups to perform in the city. 

In reply, Ambassador Sampath Prasanna Walpita Gamage revealed that about 1,800 Vietnamese tourists visited Sri Lanka. He promised to raise the number of Vietnamese tourists to Sri Lanka. 

The guest leader pledged to spare no effort to nurture the bilateral ties. He also took the occasion to express an aspiration on launching a direct air route between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam.

On this occasion, both sides agreed to conduct technological transfer in agriculture and promote youth exchanges./.
