The move aimed to respond to the 2020 Micronutrient Day. Accordingly, the campaign comprises two phases. The first phase is scheduled for June 1-2, and June 6. The second phase will take place on December 1-2.

In the first phase, the local authorities prepared 1,800 slots to provide high-dose vitamin A for 99.8% of toddlers.

Those aged from 36-60 months, and under 5-year old children vulnerable to measles, severe malnutrition, respiratory tract infection, persistent diarrhea, and infants less than six months old who can’t receive breast milk are also eligible for the dose.

In addition, medical staff would assess nutrition status for under 5-year-old children.

There are about 7.5 million children under five years old in Việt Nam, and one million of them suffer from pre-clinical vitamin A deficiency, according to the National Institute of Nutrition./.
