VGP – The local authorities of Ha Noi have opened 16 walking streets around Hoan Kiem (Returned Sword) Lake, installed 18 free wi-fi transmitters, and provided 78 parking stations for tourists.

More streets in Ha Noi have been shut to traffic at weekends so pedestrians can enjoy Hoan Kiem Lake. Accordingly, the streets are closed to traffic from 7:00 pm to 12:00 pm on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The streets include Dinh Tien Hoang, Hang Khay, Le Thai To, Le Lai, Le Thach, Tran Nguyen Han, Dinh Le, Nguyen Xi, Trang Tien, Lo Su, Hang Dau, Hoan Kiem, Luong Van Can, Hang Bai, and Bao Khanh.

The piloted period will run until the end of 2016.

An art performance will be held in the evening of September 1 to mark the launching of new walking streets.

The first pedestrian streets in Ha Noi – Hang Ngang, Hang Dao, Hang Duong and Dong Xuan in the Old Quarter - were inaugurated in 2004, where visitors could walk, shop and sample street foods.

In 2014, six more walking streets were launched, also in the Old Quarter.

Earlier, Ha Noi also decided to allow restaurants and bars in the downtown Hoan Kiem District to stay open through 2 a.m. in the last three days of a week./.
