HN, CNN sign MoU on tourism promotion for 2019-2024

VGP – ​ CNN will introduce Ha Noi as a charming destination, highlighting the images of the country, people, nature, historical relics, and attractions of Viet Nam.

Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy and Sunita Rajan, Senior Vice President of Asia-Pacific Advertising Sales at CNN International on May 20 signed a memorandum of understanding on  cooperation to popularize the capital city on the CNN channel for the 2019-2024 period. 

In the 2019-2024 period, the US-based news channel will continue popularizing Ha Noi and its culture, history and people, while partnering with the city in international events and technological innovation. 

In particular, the Formula Race 1 (F1) will be the spotlight of the 2020 promotion plan to lure more tourists to the city. 

By 2022, CNN will introduce Ha Noi and Viet Nam as an innovation centre of the world. 

By 2023-2024, the future of Ha Noi will be featured with the theme “Hanoi: a leading mindset”, which will set criteria for Ha Noi to integrate with future cities globally. 

CNN will produce 30-second clips introducing the F1 race and Southeast Asian Games 2021, dozens of 60-second clips, a series of 30-minute special television programs, and articles on “Ha Noi – Three Generations” and “Ha Noi – Future City”, all to be featured on digital platforms along with advertising banners. 

Such content will be broadcast on television and digital platforms, such as computers, apps on on hand-held devices, and CNN social media targeting the Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and South Asia. 

Previously on December 22, 2016, Ha Noi signed a US$1 million cooperation agreement with the CNN television channel to popularize the city, thus bringing in more tourists to Viet Nam and Ha Noi in particular.  

Earlier, in the 2017-2018 period, the Ha Noi People’s Committee inked a contract with the CNN on tourism promotion. The programproactively impressed domestic and foreign tourists and investors on Ha Noi as a city with long history and unique cultural values. 

In 2017, the city received 23.8 million visitors, representing a year-on-year growth of 9.2% including 4.9 million foreign guests, up 23.1%. In 2018, the number of tourists hit 26.3 million, posting a year-on-year growth of 10.4% including 6 million foreign arrivals, up 21.3%. The city fulfilled the preset goal  for the number of international guests ahead of schedule in 2020 as stipulated in Resolution 06-NQ/TW. 

In the first four months of 2019, the number of tourists was estimated at 9.67 million, up nearly 10% against the same period in 2018. The city served 2.45 million foreign guests, representing a year-on-year growth of 11.8%. 

In the reviewed time, the city was assessed as one of the most attractive destinations in the region and the world./.
