Ha Noi’s CPI rises 0.22% in January
VGP - Consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.22% in January 2019 compared to the previous month and 3.92% over the same period last year, according to the city’s Statistics Office.
Notably, after declining for several consecutive years, food and catering services saw the highest increase of 0.92%from December 2018, making them the group with the strongest price hike, data showed.Almost all goods categories recorded price increases, except for transport and telecommunications.
The prices of foods and foodstuffs, including pork, poultry meat, beef and seafood were all soared with some vegetables like morning glory, potatoes and tomatoes surging sharply.
Goods and other services slightly advanced 0.22% compared to the previous month due to increasing demand for flowers and plants for decoration in the upcoming Tet festive season.
Almost all goods categories recorded price increases, except for transport and postal – telecom services.
The prices of foods like pork, poultry, beef, aquatic products and vegetables surged in the month ahead of the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) that falls in early February, throughout which consumption demand usually skyrockets.
In addition, travel and entertainment demand has increased sharply, leading to a price rise of 0.78% in the category of culture, entertainment and tourism.
The municipal Statistics Office said, in January petrol and diesel prices have dropped strongly by 6.89% from last month, following price cuts nationwide. As a result, transport service prices in the capital city have fallen 2.92%.
