Ha Noi’s CPI declines by 0.12% in October

Regarding the first 10 months of 2020, Ha Noi’s average CPI registered a year-on-year rise of 3.15%, the city’s Statistics Office announced on October 29.

October saw four out of 11 commodity groups report price decreases from the previous month. Prices of food and catering services went down 0.34%, with food prices posting a 0.36% fall (thanks to an abundant supply in the harvest season) and foodstuff prices declining by 0.61% thanks to the plummeting prices of cattle and poultry meat.

The impact of the COVID-19 forced the group of culture, entertainment and tourism to see a price plunge of 0.65%, while a 0.13% fall was seen in the prices of housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials.

The transport category saw a month-on-month decrease of 0.1% in prices as the prices of petrol and oil went down slightly against September.

Five of the 11 commodity groups reported a CPI growth compared to September, including education (0.6%); apparel, headwear and footwear (0.07%); medicine and medical services (0.01%); and other goods and services (0.05%).

In October, the gold price dropped by 1.23% month-on-month, but surged by 27.74% year-on-year and 29% from December 2019. The average gold price between January-October rose by 26.13% over the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the price of US dollar moved up 0.03% from the previous month, 0.06% from the same period in 2019 and 0.16% compared to December 2019. Regarding the 10-month period, the average price of US dollar climbed by 0.2% year-on-year./.
