This could be seen as an encouraging result in the context of Q1 registering negative growth and the COVID-19 pandemic significantly affecting the production and consumption of agricultural products.

Regaining growth momentum

Until now, it can be affirmed that the capital’s agricultural sector has made remarkable new movements. “From negative growth in Q1, the sector created breakthroughs in Q2, bringing its growth rate in the first six months of the year to 1.61%. This is a remarkable result in the context of a 1.18% growth rate registered for the whole country during the period,” said Deputy Director of the Ha NoiDepartment of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai.

Creating new breakthroughs

To ensure a growth target of 4.12% or above in 2020, contributing to the city’s overall growth and stable supply of food and foodstuff for the people, the Department has developed growth scenarios of increase, with cultivation surging by 0.28%, animal husbandry expanding by 7.47%, and aquaculture growing by 6.52%.

The areas of animal husbandry and aquaculture are relatively positive. As for cultivation, the local agriculture sector will focus on high-tech vegetable, flower and fruit varieties, and short-day varieties, with an expanded area of about 600 hectares, while expanding the harvesting area concerning fruit trees.

In addition, Ha Noi’s agriculture sector will accompany businesses to develop linkage chains in farm produce production and consumption, strengthen trade promotion and investment attraction, and make the most of resources from the products of the “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) program to connect and expand the markets.

Among the total 281 projects in which Ha Noi called for investment at the recent conference “Ha Noi 2020 – Investment and Development Cooperation”, there are 15 in agriculture.

These will be the potential projects contributing to helping the capital city’s agricultural sector accelerate its pace in the near future.
